Do you accept unsolicited manuscripts, electronic manuscript submissions or publishing proposals?
As of 1 December 2011, we are having a break from considering new submissions, while we deal with material that has already been submitted. Submissions received before this date will be reviewed. Please note we cannot enter into any correspondence on unsuccessful submissions.
Who can I contact to help get my work published?
There are a number of organisations to help writers improve their writing skills, assess manuscripts and provide information on self-publishing.
The Australian Society of Authors is the professional association for Australia’s literary creators. Visit The Australian Society of Authors website at: www.asauthors.org for information about pay and conditions, writing, copyright and publishing.
The Australian Publishers Association produces a ‘Directory of Members’ which may help you decide which publishers would be most interested in your work. Visit The Australian Publishers Association website at:
www.publishers.asn.au to purchase the directory.
Each state and territory also has a writers’ centre and a variety of writers’ groups who can provide useful information (e.g. lists of manuscript assessment agencies), support and encouragement.

Do you hire illustrators and designers?
Hachette Australia does not employ in-house illustrators and designers. However, we do employ illustrators, designers and photographers on a book-by-book basis. If you would like to submit material, please send your CV, with a cover letter
and a printed copy of your portfolio of work to:

Do not send original artwork. If you would like your folio returned, include a stamped self-addressed envelope. No acknowledgement of receipt will be sent. As we receive many samples of work each year, it usually takes time for material to be assessed by
the relevant editors and publishers.
